Tonight’s ride starts at Bender’s Bar: 806 South Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94110. We depart promptly at midnight. Come a bit early to grab a beer with the crew before we take off…
Why is there a midnight mystery ride? Well I’ll tell you. Wayyyyyy back in the day. I’m not certain which year it was. But I am certain it was at least 2004. I was invited an attended an MMR, my first. We rode north from one of my favorite local watering holes. There were maybe 20 of us. We went to a pedestrian and bicycle underpass near the 1-5 bridge to vancouver. People brought gnoshes. We had tunes. I had the best time. I think I got home around 7am the next day. I have no pictures of that night I could share but I wish I did. I found out that night that we were doing it….because. So there you have it.
That was in Portland Oregon. They’re still at it and traditions continue. And now they’ve expanded to a whole nother city by way of my devious agenda. You can find their goings on here: http://midnightmysteryride.wordpress.com/. A big SHOUT OUT to the originals. May we all sleep a little less, amen. In your honor I present this video of a drunk guy with a bicycle.
Saturday, January 15th, midnight, be there.
